Cambridge Repertoire Choir and vocal technique classes (musical theatre)
Cambridge Repertoire Choir is an ensemble based in Cambridge that runs over the summer months. The choir is organised and led by Jennifer Edmonds - Head of Singing and Music at Urdang, London. It was formed in response to local theatre performers requesting an outlet that provided a high standard of ensemble singing to challenge them, along with the opportunity to explore an array of repertoire without the stresses of a performance at the end.
The focus of the choir is explore an array of styles from the musical theatre canon and is aimed at those with a mid-high level vocal or musical/ensemble skill. Singers are not required to be a semi professional standard but this is not a group for beginner vocalists. Each session is targeted to a certain area of musical theatre repertoire and includes vocal technique tips and tricks that are relevant to a successful performance of the style, along with musical direction. In addition to, and at the request of some members of the choir, this year will also see group technical vocal sessions introduced.
There is no audition for the choir, but there is a competence expectation regarding ensemble work. Harmonies are taught in the session but there is an expectation that these will be picked up promptly or followed roughly on the score. Music for each session is sent electronically, along with audio recordings of ensemble and any lead lines for members to use for preparation if they so wish.
